New November date for the 31st Upper Austria Ladies Linz

New November date for the 31st Upper Austria Ladies Linz

Sandra Reichel was very happy to hear this news: The women's tennis world-class tournament “2021 Upper Austria Ladies Linz”, which was originally scheduled from October 10th to 17th, will now definitely take place in Linz from November 6th to 12th! The women's tennis association WTA made this decision these days after intensive negotiations.

“I am very happy that we were able to receive an attractive date at the beginning of November. Due to Covid, the WTA calendar has been turned upside down again this year, "explains Sandra Reichel. In the original tournament week (October 10th to 17th), the Upper Austria Ladies Linz would have taken place simultaneously with the rescheduled WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells. "That's why I really wanted a new date, and we have now found a great tournament week in November. Now we have the chance of a top-class field of players."

Advance ticket sales should start at the end of September

The tournament director of Austria's most important women's sports event will do everything to present top players in the TipsArena in Linz! Local tennis fans, who have been pampered with world-class tennis in the past decades, can already look forward to this today. Advance ticket sales are scheduled to start at the end of September.

ORF Sport + television partner again

The television partner of the second-oldest WTA indoor tournament in the world is again ORF Sport + this year. “The tennis world will be there again live in Linz. We are happy to be organizing the Upper Austria Ladies with the Province of Upper Austria, the City of Linz and our long-term, loyal partners and sponsors”, says tournament director Sandra Reichel.

“We are also already working to offer an attractive program. The safety of the spectators will of course come first. This year, the Upper Austria Ladies Linz will again be a hotspot for world-class women's tennis and a meeting place for business and sport”, says the tournament director.

The hard court tournament starts on Saturday, November 6th, 2021 with qualifying, the main draw starts on Sunday, November 7th. The final has to be played on Friday, November 12th, because the WTA finals, which have been moved from Shenzhen (China) to Guadalajara (Mexico), begin on November 10th.

Sabalenka, number two in the world, triumphed at the 2020 anniversary tournament

As a reminder: Exactly one year earlier there was an anniversary happening in Linz, because the women's tennis classic "Upper Austria Ladies" had celebrated its 30th birthday in the TipsArena. And Sandra Reichel was the tournament director in Linz for the 20th time. The champion at the anniversary tournament was Aryna Sabalenka! The world number two from Belarus lived up to her favorite role in a thrilling final against the Belgian Elise Mertens, who was seeded two, and won 7:5 and 6:2 after 1h 42 min. For Sabalenka it was the eighth WTA title of her career!
