Peter-Michael Reichel re-elected: He represents Austria in the highest committee of the WTA until 2024

Great success for Austria on the international tennis stage: Not on the center court at the US Open in New York, but at the official level! Peter-Michael Reichel, founder of the tournament marketer “MatchMaker”, has recently been re-elected as Europe's highest-ranking official in the WTA (Women's Tennis Association) until 2024.

The native Welser has played a major role in the fact that women's tennis, the number one world women's sport, is experiencing an enormous upswing, especially from an economic point of view. The media value of women's tennis has increased tenfold over the past decade. In the pre-Corona year, prize money of 129 million US dollars was distributed.

Reichel has been a member of the WTA Board of Directors since 2000. The tournament organizers are now placing their trust in him for another three years. “In an exciting time that we are currently experiencing, this is remarkable in that I am not a friend of overly long periods in office. But in this challenging situation for all of us, which will also be with us in 2022 and 2023, I have decided to add a few more years, ”explained the 68-year-old.

New date for "2021 Upper Austria Ladies Linz"

In 1987, Wels, the hometown of Peter-Michael Reichel, was the cradle for the WTA tournament "Upper Austria Ladies Linz." From the 10,000 dollar tournament in which Reichel's daughter Sandra, the current tournament director, also played, from 1991 the Linz WTA tournament developed into the largest women's sports event in Austria.

In the year after the 30th anniversary, the tournament organizer MatchMaker is still intensively negotiating the date. The originally planned date (October 10th to 17th, 2021) will probably not be because there have been postponements in the tournament calendar due to corona. It is quite possible that the “2021 Upper Austria Ladies Linz ” will not take place until November or December. "A decision will be made within the next 14 days," announced Peter-Michael and Sandra Reichel.
