We are aiming for a February date for the Upper Austria Ladies Linz

Dear Tennis Fans,

the Upper Austria Ladies Linz will not take place this year. But don’t worry, we are only aiming for a further development of the tournament: we want to move back to February. The motto is “Back to the roots”, because already in the first eight years of our tournament history – between 1991 and 1998 – the Upper Austria Ladies Linz took place in a week of February.

Why do we want to reschedule the tournament? We have the following reasons: At the beginning of the year, the players are hot for tennis, fit – and not tired after a long season. Even if we were able to present tennis world stars again and again – like last year, when US Open sensation winner Emma Raducanu, former world leader Simona Halep and Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins hit in Upper Austria – we had to admit that we also had to contend with a lot of refusals. Another factor contributing to the challenge of the old event was the fact that in the parallel week in autumn there were always lucrative competition tournaments in Asia; at times the Upper Austria Ladies Linz took place right before the WTA Finals. Already for the season finale of the best eight top stars sometimes canceled at short notice; others declared their season already over.

We have been thinking about a new date for quite some time. Now a favorable opportunity arose due to the many shifts in the tournament calendar. We ask for a little patience. We are currently working hard to fix a new date as soon as possible, in order to continue the history of the second oldest women’s indoor tournament in the world in February after the “Australia Swing. ” Just like we started 31 years ago. So back to our roots.

Best regards,

Your Sandra Reichel
